TEACHING ENGLISH THROUGH FILM: CONTEXTUAL DISTINGUISHING APPROACH TO LANGUAGE LEARNING
Abstract
The integration of cultural context into language education is essential for enhancing communicative competence, and films serve as an effective pedagogical tool in this regard. By immersing students in authentic narratives, film-based approaches promote critical thinking, cultural awareness, and empathy, while improving language skills. This study examines the effectiveness of using the film-based contextual discernment approach in English language teaching, suggesting that it enhances students' understanding of the cultural and social contexts that influence language use. The survey was conducted among students of Fergana State University which included 11 participants of 4th grade learners. The results show that watching films significantly enriches students' communicative skills, promotes cultural awareness and emphasises the importance of relational dynamics in language. Students develop more effective and subtle communicative abilities through their interaction with authentic narratives, which ultimately supports the hypothesis that context is of paramount importance in language learning.
