Abstract

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the accumulation of lipids, immune cells, and fibrous elements in the arterial walls. This condition significantly contributes to cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. Among the various cellular components involved in atherosclerosis, scavenger receptors play a pivotal role in the disease's biochemical mechanisms. This article explores the functions of scavenger receptors in atherosclerosis, their contributions to lipid metabolism, inflammation, and potential therapeutic implications.
