POLITENESS AND SPEECH ACTS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

The article aims at juxtaposing how politeness is expressed through speech acts in English and Uzbek languages. Since there are many types of speech acts, the following common types of speech acts have been chosen to analyze: requests, apologies, compliments, refusals, gratitude, the expressions of disagreement. The politeness in these speech acts is compared and contrasted by taking into account of social norms and cultural values.
