LINGUOPRAGMATIC CHALLENGES IN TRANSLATING TABOO WORDS AND EUPHEMISMS BETWEEN UZBEK AND ENGLISH

This paper deals with the linguopragmatic problems facing the translator while dealing with taboo words and euphemisms during translation from Uzbek into English. In this respect, cultural and social norms influencing such terminology are discussed in more detail in order to further clarify translational difficulties which may arise. The research, based on sociolinguistic theories of discourse, indicates the differences in the way each language deals with euphemisms and taboo subjects, which usually guarantees loss in meaning or cultural misunderstanding. Following a qualitative approach, it looks into real-life examples through media, literature, and conversation. From these, the paper proves that cultural variations in perception of politeness, social hierarchy, and modesty create further complications in translation. Thus, translators have to be sensitive to both linguistic and cultural boundaries so that the intended meaning will not be altered. This article thus contributes to the broader discussion of translation studies and sociolinguistics through pragmatic insights into the challenges of translating sensitive languages across cultures.
