This article explores the importance of using authentic materials to teach listening skills in a second language (L2) context. Authentic materials are those that were not specifically created for language teaching purposes but are part of real-life communication, such as radio broadcasts, podcasts, interviews, news reports, and everyday conversations. The paper examines how these materials provide more realistic, engaging, and contextually rich listening experiences for learners, compared to traditional classroom audio resources. It reviews recent research findings on the efficacy of authentic materials in improving listening comprehension and discusses pedagogical strategies for integrating these materials into language instruction.
