Abstract

In the realm of interpersonal communication, compliments and complaints serve as vital speech acts that convey not only the speaker's intentions but also reflect underlying cultural norms and values. Compliments function as positive affirmations that can enhance social bonds and foster goodwill, while complaints often express dissatisfaction and can serve as a mechanism for conflict resolution. Both speech acts are essential components of social interaction, influencing relationship dynamics and shaping communicative outcomes. Understanding how these acts are performed across different cultures provides valuable insights into the nuanced interplay between language and social behavior.
